L.A. Chapter of SID Technical Meeting - April 29th, 2010

REFLECTIVE AND TRANSFLECTIVE LCDs

Learn about the displays that will be in your next cell phone and eReader!

There will be two speakers tonight, Mr. Richard K. Grace of Renesas Electronics America representing NEC LCD Technologies and Mr. Tom Gattinella representing Sharp. NEC will present their super reflective technology known as SR-NLT where for direct sunlight applications, you can turn off the backlight saving power with its obvious advantages. They offer a choice of 2.7" - 4.3" and 6.5" - 15" sizes, with multiple viewing characteristics, resolutions, and image optics. Mr. Grace has worked for NEC for 3 years and previously worked for Sharp, Wyle, and Proxima.

Mr. Gattinella of Sharp will present and demonstrate their latest reflective PNLC TFT technology called "Memory Display". The presentation will address the fundamental operating principles and basic features as well as how it is positioned for the latest emerging display applications. It is an alternative to the current bi-stable technologies used in eReaders and Cell phones. It offers low power consumption, fast response time, interface simplicity, high contrast ratio, and thinness. Mr. Gattinella is the South West Regional Applications Engineering Manager for Sharp. He joined Sharp in 1993 has been involved with all aspects of the design and integration of CSTN, TFT and EL flat panel displays, OPTO electronics as well as IC semiconductor components.

The meeting will be at the Doubletree Hotel Monrovia, 924 W. Huntington Drive, Monrovia, CA, 91016 (626) 357-1900. This is immediately adjacent to the Huntington Drive off ramp on the 210 Freeway and is on the south side of Huntington Drive. The hotel is newly renovated and is very attractive.

Parking is free in the hotel parking lot. There is a large Doubletree sign on the top of the building for terminal guidance. This is a new hotel for us to try which should be more convenient and "freeway close" for our members in the northern part of our area.

The date again is April 29th, 2010 and the time is 6:00 PM.

Social Hour will start at 6 PM and the meal will be set at 6:30 PM and the Meeting will start at 7:30 PM.
